About Me
Iām Bob Yang, a McNair Scholar and undergraduate researcher in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Linguistics at the University of Minnesota, where I also sing in the university opera. My research focuses on sociophonetics, tone, and language access, particularly within the Hmong/Mong community.
My research investigates how voice, speech, and language interact with identity, culture, and technology. Current projects focus on Hmong orthographic reform, discourse particles, and bilingualism, and upcoming work will examine the relationship between music and tonal languages.
My future goal is to explore the sociophonetic patterns and sound variation within the global Hmong/Mong diaspora.
